SHSU POVERTY SIMULATION

The College of Health Sciences and College of Osteopathic Medicine at Sam Houston State University with the help of the East Texas Human Needs Network helped put on a poverty simulation in October of 2021. The simulation comes from the Missouri Community Action Poverty Simulation (CAPS) program. “CAPS is not a game” but “a unique tool that community action agencies are able to use to educate everyone, from policymakers to community leaders, about the day-to-day realities of life with a shortage of money and an abundance of stress" (POVERTY SIMULATION - NETHEALTH (ethnn.org). The following link attached is a video from the simulation for SHSU students and faculty, showing their different roles and activities throughout the simulation.
